Now that we’ve established what a podcast is, we can move to the next question in line, and that is: Why you should be starting a podcast?
Starting a podcast
Before starting to write this blog post, I naturally did some research on the topic online. I wanted to see how others felt about the topic, and in which areas their opinions differed from mine.
This whole process made me think about what I was actually doing, and that was:
- organizing my thoughts,
- wondering,
- researching,
- double-checking, and
- finally learning something new.
The same would go for starting a podcast.
You would first have to decide on your topic. Then make a brief outline, and do some research. Next, find a guest for your show if you plan to have it as an interview, do research on your guest and his/her work, conduct the interview and expect to learn something new. So, the first good reason for starting your own podcast is the element of evolving as a person and as a professional in your field. Once you realize this benefit, you might not need any others to motivate you.
Building a connection through podcasting
Another thing, and a very significant one, is that you will be putting a face to your company. It is no secret that people tend to feel more connected with a person than with a corporate brand. Starting a podcast, where you will speak about your views and your experience as a person in that certain line of work, and how all those things have helped you promote your brand and make it more customer-oriented, will most definitely draw you closer to your potential clients. They will hear information from you, in the first person. And if they like what you have to offer, they will keep returning. Making a connection is the key. What’s more, having a constant presence with a podcast shows your passion for what you are doing. People like to know that you are passionate about your work.
Advantages of starting a podcast
The list of advantages of starting a podcast keeps growing. We all know that it is imperative to stand out in the crowd to achieve success. A podcast can give you precisely that – the opportunity to make yourself and your company authentic. Company authenticity is really about being reliable, respectful, and real. Honest communication regarding services at all times and staying true to what you stand for as a company are the pillars of building value. Podcasting allows you to communicate those to your audience and helps your listeners relate to your business.
Regular and quality content podcasts with interviews or discussions with relevant business people will put you on the map. If you are a driven business person and you are willing to invest your time in podcast making, recognition as an expert or leader in your industry is one of the benefits you could reap. You will provide fantastic content and you will show the world your presence on the market. You may even get to a point of being invited to interviews by other podcasters, or even speak at local events or large-scale ones. Each of these is, in turn, great marketing for you and your company. To conclude, making use of podcasts as marketing tools will help you generate traffic which is of utmost importance in today’s business world.
